The Skill Being Assessed
Effective physical and infrastructure asset management depends on accurate, accessible data. An Asset Information System (AIS) is the central hub for tracking an asset's entire lifecycle, from installation to decommissioning. A key function of this system is recording and analyzing maintenance history.
By querying the AIS for maintenance records, asset managers can move from reactive repairs to proactive strategies. Identifying trends in equipment failures, repair costs, and downtime allows you to predict future issues, optimize maintenance schedules, and make data-driven decisions about asset repair or replacement. This skill is fundamental to reducing operational costs and increasing asset reliability.
Your Task
You are an Asset Management Analyst for a municipal water treatment facility. Your manager has asked you to review the maintenance history for the facility's primary water circulation pumps. There are concerns that one of the pumps is becoming unreliable.
Your task is to analyze the provided maintenance data, identify the problematic asset, update its status in the asset register, and summarize your findings in a brief memo.
Deliverables:
1. An updated version of the asset-register.csv file, reflecting the new information from the condition-assessment-memo.pdf.
2. A brief analysis memo (1-2 paragraphs) that:
* Identifies the specific pump that is showing performance degradation.
* Summarizes the trend you observed in the maintenance data to support your conclusion.
* Provides a clear, actionable recommendation for the asset.
Resources and Data
Use the following files to complete your task. You will analyze the maintenance log, review the technician's field report, and update the asset register.
1. Maintenance History Log: This data set contains all maintenance activities for the primary circulation pumps over the last three years.
